When were you happiest as a fan?
Let's face it, supporting West Ham can be chore. Particularly at the moment with GSB lurching from self-inflicted crisis to crisis.

So... when were you happiest as a West Ham fan?

For me it was from 97-2000 era. My wife and I had moved into our first bought house, so weekends were spent stripping rooms and listening to Capital Gold. We had Hartson, Kitson, Berkovic, Lampard, Lomas, Sinclair. We would soon get Kanoute and Paolo.

I remember painting my soon-to-arrive daughter's room as we tonked Barnsley 6-0, and I remember a sunny day painting the dining room as we beat Liverpool 2-1.

We were as frustrating them as we are now, but it coincided with a good time in my life so these seem like golden times to me. And we had that fantastic Fila kit...

The Di Canio era was a brilliant time following the club, as although we obviously won fuck all as always, there weren't many dull games and we had a brilliant attacking line up.

Also loved the early 90's when we had the un-injured Dicksy, Morley, Bish etc. That team gave me one of my favourite ever seasons when we got promoted from the 2nd division, culminating in a 3-1 win at Swindon that then set up the game at home against Cambridge.

Dicksy aside (yeah I'm biased), no absolute world beaters in that team, but all of them would run through a brick wall for West Ham and that's sadly missing with most players nowadays.

The Billy Bonds era - despite yo-yoing between the divisions, we had passionate players and played the West Ham way, loved the Cup run too

The 60s for me. Coming out of work to be amazed in the evening papers that we had spent record money and signed Budgie Byrne. This led to some really great times.

Between 74 and 89 the entire John Lyall era as I literally grew up with him as Manager. Some great seasons and players and some not so great seasons and players but because he was a man of such likeability and integrity it always just felt like a family club and its up and downs (typical West Ham) but I had no doubt that he would probably have teamed up with Bonzo at some stage when we were relegated and just rebuild. Was shocked when he was sacked and still am saddened how he was treated.

However I still think Bonzo and Harry made it West Ham again and there was a lot of cracking stuff, and some crap, but because they played the right way you put up with the crap.

Always grateful to Pards for a Cup Final and obviously Bilic's first season was as close to the old West Ham I have seen but in a nutshell definitely the Lyall years.

Beetween the ages of between 4 which was when my old man first took me til i was about 14. Didnt really know the misery you could feel from loving a club up to that point.

85/86 season was a time of incredible highs and at the end nothing but heartache.

And of course the EINTRACHT game in 76. Outside of my kids being born, still the greatest night of my life.

The 85/86 season was fabulous. Everything just clicked. McAvennie and Ward arrived in the summer and fitted straight in. Great football, great results Cottee and Macca scoring for fun. In with a chance of winning the title almost to the wire. I'll never forget the atmosphere at the Ipswich game.

Every awayday, cos the football is just 90 mins of the day, meeting up with your mates and having a good drink is what watching west ham is about for me.
